Description
The West Country is one of the UK's great climbing destinations, and this is the guidebook that does it justice. The area offers hundreds of fantastic routes of all grades and styles across a remarkable variety of rock types, and for the first time since the original edition, all of it is gathered into one thoroughly updated volume.
The 2022 edition builds substantially on its predecessor: where the 2010 book covered 884 routes across 424 pages, this new edition runs to 1,771 routes across 640 pages. Almost every crag has been re-photographed, the maps are more detailed, and coverage has expanded considerably.
The rock ranges from the golden granite sea cliffs of West Penwith through the dark lava and culm of the north Devon and Cornwall coasts, the granite of Dartmoor's tors, and the limestone of Torbay, the Avon Gorge, and the Wye Valley. The climbing styles are equally varied: long, committing multi-pitch routes on Atlantic-facing sea cliffs sit alongside bolted sport limestone, esoteric culm slab climbing, and sheltered moorland granite.
Areas covered include the Wye Valley, Avon Gorge, Portishead, Goblin Coombe, Cheddar Gorge, North Devon, the Culm Coast, Tintagel, Bosigran, Sennen, Land's End, Chair Ladder, The Lizard, Haytor, The Dewerstone, Berry Head, Anstey's Cove, and many more.
