Description
The Instinct VS-R takes Scarpa's well-proven Instinct last and softens it up, swapping in Vibram's stickier XS Grip 2 rubber and a more supple build for extra feel on smears, slopers and delicate footholds. The moderate downturn and slight asymmetry keep it versatile rather than one-dimensional, so it performs well on steep terrain without falling apart on vertical walls.
Scarpa's Bi-Tension system runs a tensioned rubber wrap down both sides of the shoe, pulling support into the toes while leaving the centre of the foot free to flex and feel the rock. Combined with the sock-style fit and single Velcro strap, it's quick to get on and off between burns, and holds a locked-in fit without excess bulk. For climbers who want the proven Instinct shape but with more sensitivity and grip, the VS-R is the shoe to reach for.
